I am really interested in as much knowledege as possible on putting my business in place BEFORE I walk in the door. The shop I was going for has just fallen through due to a greedy landlord and I have lost money and learned an expensive lesson. I have found another shop and now know that the ideas I have can be housed anywhere and it is the business idea that will sustain. I feel I have loads of information from doing my online emyth course but am a bit overwhelmed as to how to put it in practice. All the stories I have read are on people who have been in business and through the emyth are rectifying it- not about STARTING. Can you help! Charlotte, London, UK
If you are feeling overwhelmed you need to slow down a bit. Use the worksheets and learning materials from one of the courses and start putting them in place. There is too much to do when you are starting out to try to do it all at once, or to do it all perfectly the first time. While there are unique challenges faced by start-ups and existing businesses the key to success in implementing E-Myth systems and learning is to focus one area, set up your system then moving on. So where are you going to start? What is your goal for this area of your business? When will you have a version 1.0 system in place?
Thanks Hasan Really appreciated. Can you expand what you mean "So where are you going to start? What is your goal for this area of your business? When will you have a version 1.0 system in place? " Can you expand on that and be a bit more specific as to where to start!. Thankyou All the best Charlotte, London, UK
Putting the E-Myth to Work in a Start Up - Hello Charlotte, In your original post you wrote that you were feeling overwhelmed as to where to start and wondering how to best apply the learning you gained from the Embark E-Learning program to your new business. The questions I posed at the end of my last comment were directed to you, as a way of pin pointing a specific area of the business that requires systems and development. The most effective use of your time during this hectic start up phase is to focus in on one particular area of the business such as lead generation or management for example, and begin building systems and processes. A focused, narrow approach will help you get to results faster and will reduce the feeling of overwhelm. If you like, please let us know what area of the business you are going to begin working on, and what your goals for that area of the business are? We are here to help so please continue asking questions and sharing your experience.
Thankyou. I am opening my first hair salon. I have been self employed as a freelance session hairdresser for 12 years. My mission is to have a great salon that keeps staff, is successful, gives me freedom to do session work(magazine shoots/fashion shows/celebs etc) as well, is innovative, different, inspiring and makes money! I really want to get off on the right footing, employ the right people and start as I mean to go on. I want to come up with a work ethic manual- what is expected, who does what and when etc. I feel I need to do that asap. Is it possible to do that before going in...?
Going In With Systems Hello Charlotte, You’re definitely on the right path with your mission and I love the concept of a Work Ethic Manual, everything except the name. This manual will be a growing body of knowledge about this business and the systems that make it run. I would suggest getting started with an overall description of the unique customer experience that your business provides. Describing the outcome you are striving for will help frame the importance of the systematic approach. Then you can get into position agreements and action plans for each position, which are covered in your Embark E-learning Management course. I can see the 1st version of this manual including the following documents: 1) Strategic Objective 2) Description of the Customer Experience 3) Positions and Accountabilities (position agreements + action plans) This seems like a good place to get started.
Thankyou for putting it so clearly. Really appreciated!
I'll let you know how it goes
All the best
